Video Display Editor

VDE is a versatile and fast text editor for the DOS by Eric Meyer. It dates back to the 1980ies. It works with e.g. FreeDOS. Mouse supported.

What i personally like:

stability - I never had a crash, never lost any text
speed. VDE instantly opens
large Files
many functions
allows for "cursor follows mouse" (my preference)
allows 23 lines in DOS. Great for easy reading.
utf8 or ascii encoding able
printing works (on HP LaserJet via Centronics parallel, has many options)
